OUTREACH EVENT!
The Junior Giants
glove drive is on Saturday, May 10th at the AT&T Ballpark.  We have arranged for up to 15 of St. Stephen's youth to participate in the collection of gloves at AT&T Ballpark and attend the game.  We will leave BART at 8:30 a.m. and return around 5:00 p.m.  The Junior Giants glove drive supplies gloves directly to the more than 13,000 underserved children who sign up to play baseball, free of charge, each year with the Junior Giants.   More than 40% of all Junior Giants baseball players do not own their own glove! Sign up in the narthex or email Sean at dahouse5@aol.com to sign up.  You will collect baseball mitts and money donations…you will enjoy a fun day of watching baseball and on top of that…a free hot dog and soda!

Hi All-

Read and be enlightened.

Pancake Breakfast
Thanks for helping to celebrate EARTH DAY!  Great job to those who helped with the totally organic pancake breakfast (shout-outs to youth: Darby for arriving to help at 7:30am, Jakob for his fantastic flipping, and Shannon Noone for washing til 12:30pm!).  Thanks to the Rhoades, Kerrs and Templetons for your help too. Since the Bisels bought/donated the organic food, we got to keep the $400 we made to go towards our youth projects.  Thanks again.  Who knew organic sausages exist??  And, they are actually good (at least the 5 of them I ate).
Next date:  May 11th Mother's Day celebration (Dad's cook and serve casseroles)

WE NEED WORKERS!  Parents/youth/your family dog (actually no), but everyone is needed!!!

April 27th-Confirmands/High school senior recognition Sunday & Kid's Sunday
If you are one of the above mentioned, come and be recognized.  OK, I'm feeling really, really, really guilty, but I won't be at church this Sunday.  No, it's not because you are not important, nor is it because I don't care, but I actually have an important event that was planned awhile ago that conflicts with this Sunday.  So, can I make it up to you another time?  May 18th will be acolyte recognition day and youth helpers appreciation day.

Bishop's Ranch
May 2-4th
Come canoeing with us down the Russian River on Sat. May 3rd.  Need to be adopted for the weekend?  Contact me.  I promise not to scare you with my driving.  Looking for youth that knows YouTube/video editing stuff.

From Mother Jan:

Hi all,
Just a note about the Prayer Poles.  Mrs. Ahlborn and I are going to spray them for protection against the weather tomorrow and I need your input on a new idea - tonight - if at all possible!  What do you think about planting ONE pole in the garden and using the other two for decoration in the Youth Room?  By planting only one pole: 1) we only have to spray one, 2) the task for all of us on Saturday becomes much easier and 3) we can think of a few creative things to do in the youth room with the other two.
Please Vote:
1 - Yes, plant only one pole
2 - No, plant all three poles
3 - Prayer Poles???
Please reply before Wednesday at noon to me, or to Wes Ahlborn.
Many thanks,
Peace,
Mo. Jan

Navajo Trip

Whoa, I think that's it!
Have a good week, Shannon

So what’s the deal with Journey to Adulthood? Well, my understanding of Journey to Adulthood grows and changes everyday as I learn how much the program can do for us.  Allow me…

Rite-13 lays the foundation of Journey to Adulthood.  Focusing on Junior High, we’ll start to explore topics of “self, spirituality, society and sexuality.”  We hope to establish a community and celebrate friendships.

J2A
builds upon Rite-13.  Focusing on freshmen and sophomores, we’ll develop our leadership skills and creative energy.  We hope to learn more about how faith can work through our lives in various experiences.  A pilgrimage and community service trip will be planned for the end of year.  So, stay tuned!

YAC (Young Adults in the Church) follows J2A.  Focusing on juniors and seniors, we’ll challenge you to be the mentors to those who will walk in your shoes one day.  You’ll be using your knowledge of life, faith, and service to actively participate in St. Stephen’s community and beyond.

Teen Sunday School Teens gather in the Youth Lounge during the 1st part of the 10 o'clock service to check in with one another about how their week has been and to share and discuss the day's lessons and Gospel reading. This is a relaxed and fun gathering for teens to share their spiritual journey. Join us!

Acolytes St. Stephen's acolytes are an outstanding group of young people that play an integral role in Sunday morning worship services and other special services. Our acolytes work in teams to assist the clergy and the congregation throughout the service. Acolytes have the opportunity to learn about the service and its meanings as they are involved in all aspects of the service including the Processional, the Gospel Reading, the Offertory, the Holy Eucharist and the Recessional. To learn more about the long tradition of St. Stephen’s outstanding acolytes or to become an acolyte, please contact our acolyte director Court Houseworth at (925) 962-4060. Click HERE for the Acolyte Schedule.

Acolytes prepare for Sunday morning

What about our St. Stephen’s Youth Outreach? Headed by Sean and Madison Houseworth, our St. Stephen’s Youth Program will look beyond ourselves and help others. Last year, St. Stephen’s Youth Outreach Program participated in the Make-A-Wish Bowl-Across-The-Bay (right). Our bowlers raised over $1700 for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Way to go, team!

It’s not ‘ALL ABOUT ME’ Somehow, no matter where I’ve gone or what experiences I’ve had, I always find myself being drawn back to the youth of St. Stephen’s.  I believe in the faith formation, spiritual guidance, and service opportunities that can be nourished and discovered here.   The youth-oriented committees and vestry liaisons are here to support you.  Never think you’re out there in the world alone.

Come check out Journey to Adulthood.  See how spirituality can work for you now and always.  Whether you are being dragged by your parents or trying to boost-up your college application or coming to hangout and get away from it all, I guarantee we will make it FUN.  So true is the Journey to Adulthood promise: “If you are seeking the Christ, together we will find him.”
