This week, Kristy and I made our annual pilgrimage to Target for Back to School supplies for Abby and John. Sadly, we are past the days of needing boxes of crayons and glue sticks…somehow those have been replaced with laptop cases and charging cords.

For both students and caregivers, Back to School is a  mix of excitement and anxiety. I remember those nervous drives to OIS on Sunday evening to see what Homeroom Teacher I was assigned to and wondering if any of my friends would be in my class. Years later, and now a parent, my heart goes out to all those students who carry those same worries and joys that I held all those years ago.

So, this week, I invite you to pray for our schools, and the students, teachers, staff, and parents who help make them hubs of learning and exploration.

WELCOME BACK to Sunday School where we are celebrating the 13th Sunday after Pentecost. Our lesson and discussion will be about how can we live wisely and make the most use out of our time (Ephesians 5:15-20). We will have some crafts and decorate cupcakes and create a welcome back banner for our church!

What: ‘STRATEGIC VISION’ LISTENING SESSION w/BISHOP RIOS

Join Rev. Matt in welcoming our new Bishop, Austin Rios, and congregants from East Bay Deaneries to discuss our concerns and hopes for the future of the Diocese of California. St Stephen’s hosts the inaugural ‘listening session’—don’t miss this opportunity to help shape the vision for our Diocese.

What: CONFIRMATION CLASS BEGINS

When: Sunday, September 22nd after the 10am service

Where: St. Stephen’s location TBA

Rev Matt will teach a multi-generational confirmation class for all who wish to

be confirmed at Grace Cathedral in the fall. More information soon.

OUTREACH

FOOD BANK WORK DAY

Friday, August 16th, 1-3pm, is our monthly work session at the food bank in Concord. We’ll meet there and sort food for delivery throughout Contra Costa County. To learn how you can help, or if you’d like a ride, please contact Betsy or John Donnelly, 925-639-5602.
